WHAT'S NEXT FLYER

Page history last edited by Jeremy 15 years ago

THE FOLLOWING FLYER WAS REMOVED FROM STUDENTS' MAILBOXES ON THE CHESTNUT STREET CAMPUS ON APRIL 1, 2009 BY ORDER OF THE ADMINISTRATION OF SFAI.  IT IS FELT THAT THIS REMOVAL CONSTITUTES A VIOLATION OF STUDENTS' RIGHTS TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND EXPRESSION, GUARANTEED BY THE US CONSTITUTION AND CALIFORNIA STATE LAWS THAT PROTECT THESE RIGHTS ON PRIVATE CAMPUSES.

WHAT ARE WE LOSING AT SFAI?

SO FAR:

- A DEDICATED AND SKILLED CAFE MANAGER AFTER 17 YEARS OF SERVICE!

Pete served SFAI’s students, faculty, and staff awesome, cheap, huge meals for 17years only to be LOCKED out of the cafe and fired without any prior notice.

- A FULL-TIME, FRIENDLY, HIGHLY COMPETENT MAINTENANCE PAIR AFTER MANY YEARS!

‘Doug and Rob’ were simply awesome; always helping students install artwork, keeping the place in order and running, and were super friendly to everyone.  After years of service, they were given a choice to either reconfigure their positions so that one would supervise the other, both taking substantial pay cuts, or find another job.

- ANALOG COLOR PHOTOGRAPHY FACILITIES, IN A DEPARTMENT FOUNDED BY PHOTOGRAPHY GIANTS!  Photo students wishing to pursue analog color got a raw deal when their color processors were thrown out last summer.  Apparently anyone doing analog color nowadays, even in a department founded by Ansel Adams, Minor White, and other photo giants, is behind the times and needs to get up to speed?

- LIGHT-FILLED, SPACIOUS SENIOR PAINTING STUDIOS IN STUDIO 18! Ever wonder why there are so few senior painting studios and that students have to take a specific CLASS ($) to get try to get into one?  We used to have well-lit, spacious studios that a student could freely apply for in Studio 18; that is until it was turned into a lecture room, the studios moved to the old painting rack room, and a class created so that students would have to pay and be juried to get their own studio.

- AMAZING FACULTY! Film students! Remember Jun Jalbuena, Kerry Laitala, Ernie Gehr, and Jeanne Liotta?  Ever wonder why they don’t teach at SFAI anymore?  Well, Ernie was disgusted by the admin’s choosing a new Department Chair without telling anyone (even Brook Hinton, then Chair), and the rest haven’t been invited back, despite a petition signed by virtually the entire department on behalf of Jun!  AND Film isn’t the only one; we’ve seen this in other departments throughout the school!

- AN AWESOME CATALOGUING LIBRARIAN! Wonder why it’s sometimes hard to get new book requests to go through in the Library, and why we now close an hour early?  Well, on top of major budget cuts, we’ve lost our Cataloguing Librarian, an essential part of any library.  Who by the way, volunteered to be axed in stead of our Library Assistant, who was laid off without prior notice to any of the Library staff and without due investigation into her integral role in day to day operations!

- OUR “TOP TEN” SPOT ON US NEWS AND WORLD REPORT’S COLLEGE RANKING! Our world-renowned MFA program has slipped from in the TOP TEN to in the THIRTIES in the past few years!

- AND MORE!

SO, ASK YOURSELF.....
